Volunteer Your Passion for Mental Wellness in Africa

We believe in “teaching people to fish, not giving them fish.”

Considering volunteering or would like an internship in Africa, on your career break or in your gap year? Or maybe you are retired and crave a meaningful adventure that empowers both yourself and others.

The Shibero Psychosocial Health Trust (SPHT) is on a mission to empower YOU to become a mental and emotional wellness champion in Africa, where you empower communities to break the stigma surrounding mental and emotional health where you’ll equip communities with the tools they need to build resilience across communities in Africa, where they thrive.

Volunteering at SPHT in Kenya is not just for college students. Increasingly, mature travelers are also looking for new adventures that allow them to experience what Africa has to offer and immerse themselves in a whole new world.

So, we’re especially interested in welcoming passionate retirees who bring valuable life experiences to share!

Whether you’re traveling solo, are a gap year student or a mature volunteer, whether you’ve got a week or six months to spare, we’ve got the volunteer project for you.

Our volunteer programs are a major contribution in supporting our vision, where people on the African continent, have good mental and psychosocial health for all and for communities, families and individuals to achieve healthier happier lives. Your support is invaluable.

How We Work.

A Collaborative Approach: Standing Alongside,

Not Above:

Our Projects seek passionate Christians who understand that empowerment comes from collaboration, not dictation.  We’re not looking for experts to swoop in and “fix” things.  Instead, we value individuals who:

  • Embrace a posture of humility: We all have something to learn, and a willingness to learn from our youth is key.
  • Thrive in an equal partnership: We work alongside our youth, not above them. Your experience is valuable, but so are their voices and perspectives.
  • Celebrate diverse viewpoints: Openness to different cultural backgrounds and ways of thinking is essential for creating a truly impactful program.
  • Lead with love, not condescension: Christ calls us to serve with love and respect. Racism and a patronizing attitude have no place here.

This is a journey of shared learning and growth.  If you’re passionate about how we work and fostering a Christ-centered, inclusive environment, we encourage you to apply for upcoming positions!
