Breaking the Silence on Abuse of Women in Communities
‘…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair’ Isaiah 61:3
Born from Shibero’s personal experiences and observations as a mental health professional, this project has been a seed of hope since 1996, now blossoming into a powerful campaign, also born out of the research ‘Women’s Mental Health in Kenya’ which spoke for many women across the continent of Africa.
This research revealed a critical truth: many women in Africa suffer from depression due to a pervasive culture of abuse. Furthermore, it highlighted the lack of support tailored to address the unique stories and challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society.
EmpowerHer is for ALL Women.
This project, is not just for women in Africa. Abuse of women is a global and faced by many women – who are the most affected by depression (estimated 3.8% of the population experience depression, with 4% among men and 6% among women – WHO).
