One of our key initiatives is the African Mental Health First Aid (AMHFA) program, a community-driven solution empowering individuals to take responsibility for their mental wellness, understand, manage and prevent situational depression support one another and break the stigma of mental ill health.
The SPHT’s AMHFA program offers a unique training experience that blends traditional storytelling techniques with practical mental health knowledge. This culturally sensitive approach resonates with African communities and fosters a deeper understanding of mental well-being.
SPHT in Partnership with Jukumu Letu
SPHT will be running an AMHFA for parents and all staff at Jukumu Letu in November 2024.
Jukumu Letu (JLCBO), Ngong, Takes ActionRecognizing the critical need for early intervention, Jukumu Letu (Our Responsibility) (JLCBO), a Ngong-based community organization working with vulnerable preschoolers in Kajiado County, Kenya, partnered with Shibero.com Psychosocial Trust (SPHT). This partnership empowers Jukumu Letu staff through training in SPHT’s African Mental Health First Aid for Youth and Families program. The program equips Youth and Parents with the knowledge and skills to:
Understand mental wellness in children
Understand the causes and signs of mental health issues
Develop the life skills and awareness to support children’s social and emotional development.
For the Youth on SPHT AMPHA ‘Pamoja Tuninuka ‘ Project, youth will benefit as follows:
Enhanced Life Skills and Leadership: The program equips youth with a toolbox of skills for personal and professional success.
Improved Mental Well-being
Positive Community Impact: Youth will leave their mark by creating and leading community projects with lasting impact.
Strength in Numbers: A lasting network of support, empowering youth to rely on each other.
By participating in this program, Jukumu Letu will be supporting the mental well-being of the Ngong youth and families in sustainable mental wellness.
