Communities, families and individuals on the continent of Africa, with good mental health awareness and sustainable mental and psychosocial health for all, especially vulnerable groups.
To strengthen, and build hope and resilience in individuals and communities affected by depression, so that they are prepared mentally and psychologically, to deal effectively with the daily challenges and opportunities of life.

EXPANDING ACCESS TO DEPRESSION CARE IN AFRICA

As of 2023, according to the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • About 280 million people globally are experiencing depression.
  • 116 million in Africa are affected by depression, up from 53 million in 1990
  • 66 million women in Africa suffer from depression and anxiety disorders 
  • 85% of affected women do not have access to treatment.

SPHT TRUST

OUR OBJECTIVES

A central goal of SPHT is to tackle and eventually end the widespread issue of depression across the African continent.

We focus on providing free psychosocial depression treatment to this demographic in sub-Saharan Africa.

To achieve sustainability by training members of the community to facilitate therapy groups, and work with governments and NGOs to incorporate mental health services into existing community programs.

Emphasize the importance of regular assessment and feedback to ensure the effectiveness and adaptability of our programs.

To empower individuals by equipping them with skills to manage and overcome depression, while also building sustainable life skills in families and fostering a sense of community and support

Broaden awareness about mental health and depression, challenge stigma, and provide education on these issues
